When starting to create a blog website I took many options into consideration. I looked at Wix, Squarespace, and WordPress just to name a few.
WordPress seemed to be a little cheaper than the others and I was looking forward to using all the plugins in its ecosystem. I was also looking to save a few bucks.
Little did I realize that all the plugins are behind their Creator tier, and at the time of writing is about $40 a month or $300 a year if I prepaid the annual plan. Outside my budget as I’m getting started.
Basically, all the sweet features and optimization and caching is behind the Creator tier and up.
With the goal to save money, I decided to self-host. There’s plenty of sources on the web about self-hosting a WordPress page.
All website builders and hosting platforms offer a ton of tools but at a cost. A cost I’m not willing to pay with money but instead spend time to learn what it takes to do the work myself.
